New LIVE House Music Mix / HUMP! @ ND Saturday, Nov. 13

Well, I'm finally getting back into the groove after some time away for a fantastic wedding with Jenny, the love of my life, in Puerto Rico. Man, it was hard coming back to reality after being away for almost two weeks! I think we need to find a way to retire before turning 50 - Life on an island - snorkeling, swimming, hiking, and just lazing around is WAY too relaxing!

Anyways, life is all good here in Austin, and as usual, there are plenty of fun things happenin'... The Sunset Sessions show at Lanai on Labor Day Sunday was a major success - Much thanks to all who came out and made it happen! Such beautiful people, there strictly for the music and the positive vibes, all the right reasons! Can't wait to do it again soon. By the way, here are two great live sets from the night to give a feel for the deep-jazzy-soulful-tech house sounds that we love to play at Lanai. I hope ya dig it...

More House Music news to come soon. But first, it's time to get Back to Our Roots ; ) HUMP! has been goin' 5 years strong now, and it's really evolved and matured over the years... We started it @ Plush and spent 3 1/2 years there - first monthly, then weekly - with our peeps, but as of late we've returned the focus to quality rather than quantity. And our friends and fans have been fully supportive of the change. So, our last show was @ ND in May, and we all loved it so much we've decided to finally return! For those that haven't been to ND @ 501 Studios(formerly the Independent), this space is perfectly laid out for HUMP! with plenty of room for dancing, plus a proper stage for the DJs and musicians, and a 50 foot video screen that is perfect for showing off all of our favorite classic funk and disco album covers... And the room has a lot of dimension that really shows off the disco balls and swirling laser light effects that bring the whole classic nightclub HUMP! vibe together. Come join us on the 13th @ ND for a damn funky, love dance party - I promise you won't regret it.

More news from The Family / Sunset Sessions this Sunday, September 5th @ LANAI!

Ok, folks!  Good things behind us now and even better things on the horizon…
The Family’s show at Encore was great – That space really is perfect for House Music!  The staff and management is super cool too.  Hopefully, we’ll do something there again soon.

And last Saturday with Wally Callerio at Encore was def one to remember!  Props go out to Rob Nelson
and the Capital Techno guys for putting another great event together.  These guys are super-talented and really hard workers, so they deserve all the success that’s coming their way.  Big ups to Wally Callerio for rockin’ it (of course) and Electric Avenue ATX gets due respect for setting it up!  Great night all around…

And now for this Sunday ~  SUNSET SESSIONS!!!  This really is one of my favorite parties of the year.  I know I’m  a bit biased because we’re helping to make it happen, but damn, the crowd that comes out for these shows is just soooo up for it!  Lots of diversity, with people coming from all over Texas and the U.S. and even Mexico (!!! ) for the holiday weekend...  Add to that Ilya Janos on percussion and Reverend Pain on saxophone, and the vibe is really “thick” and warm with the appeal of a real live performance.   This is our fourth episode of Sunset Sessions, and we are getting better and better at what we do, and promoting more and more for each show to ensure that we have enough of the RIGHT people.  And no, I’m not talking about pretty people, or people that dress a certain way, or mp3j’s or people that know so-and-so, or house music purists.  I’m talking about people who show up with a positive attitude and who are ready to relax and dance to quality- deep-jazzy-latin-soulful-techy-tribal DANCE MUSIC – No matter what you wanna call it, ya feel me?

So for this one, we know it’s hot out there, so we’re gonna to have all the industrial fans on and there will be plenty of breeze flowing through so you can enjoy the sunset with us on the rooftop.  Plus, we’re going the extra mile by bringing a shaved ice vendor along to serve their “snowies” (you can even have the bar make yours an adult sno cone ; )  And tons of drink specials til 8, including $2.50 beers, $3 frozen drinks , $4 sangrias and wells from 6 to 8.  Oh, and a full food menu til 10.  Doors open at 6 pm, so come early to relax and enjoy the beauty all around at Lanai - It really is a lovely little getaway in the heart of downtown Austin!

Check the mix below for a little taste of what we do.  And see the flyer below for details.  Hope to see many of you there!

Blog greetings / POW hosted by The Family Saturday, August 21

Well folks, I'm finally jumping on the blog bandwagon because I've been hearing from lots of folks (including my lovely soon-to-be bride, Jenny) that blogs are a great way to get the word out about the good things happening in my world...

Since starting on this journey about 11 years ago here in Austin, TX, my goal has been and continues to be to bring some of the best music events possible to our hometown.  This dream is influenced by some of my favorite nights out - ever - including dancing for 8 hours to Danny Tenaglia playing CLASSICS at his now defunct residency "Be Yourself" at Vinyl in NY; seeing Amp Fiddler and Gilles Peterson GROOVE a dirty abandoned warehouse in London; stumbling down an alley in Barcelona to vibe out to funk and disco classics in a tiny Absinthe bar; leaving the main rooms in Ibiza to see the locals do DEEP HOUSE MUSIC right; dancing all night and then the next day to House Music on a hilltop patio in Thailand; and of course, many fun nights at clubs (and yes, even raves) with the oh-so-talented locals here in Austin and in our sister cities of San Antonio, Houston and Dallas.  All of this and much more stir together in my brain, driving me to create POSITIVE music and events that can truly penetrate the SOUL and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.  It really is a spiritual thing, and WE NEED THIS!

Ok, sorry for getting a little carried away there...  What people really need to know now is what's happening this Saturday, August 21.  So here's the lowdown - For those of you who love True House Music and Classics (and even Dubstep), this one's for you!

After a helluva night last Saturday at the new night "POW" @ Club Encore - 611 Red River, The Family is taking the torch for this Saturday's festivities, and we're doing it the only way we know how - with plenty of funk and soul and classic appeal, but with enough of a bottom end to keep it moving.  "No parking on the dancefloor", haha!

DJs Millhouse (Houston via ATX) will get it rockin' early while the club provides the full bar at half-price from 9 to 11 pm, then Brotha Jibril (Houston) will join me (Paco) to keep it goin' until 3 am.  Come early to support, because the party is what YOU make of it, ya feel me?

Oh yeah, I shouldn't fail to mention that the L.I.T. crew brings the HEAVY dubstep vibes to the upstairs "Rant Room" every Saturday too!  So there are plenty of options for your diverse musical tastes...

And for those of you saying "Encore?  Isn't that just the old Spiro's?", quit sleepin'!  This place has been completely transformed!  The dancefloor is positively the best in Austin, with world class lighting and sound like you've never seen before.  Literally, I guarantee you've never seen the light arrays they have on the ceiling of this joint.  So, if you've been hangin' at home on the weekends for the past few years waiting for the right time to go out and enjoy quality underground house, techno and dubstep, the time has finally come to step out!

ps POW happens every Saturday, so if you can't get out to get your fix this Saturday, come soon...  Plenty of talented crews and DJs will be in the mix in the coming weeks, so drop on in!
