The Deep House Family Mix Page

Surprisingly, there aren't many resources online strictly for sharing and listening to deep house mixes from a variety of DJs, so I created a new page STRICTLY FOR THE LOVE OF DEEP HOUSE. Jump on and share your favorite deep house mixes, or just scroll down the page and hit play for countless hours of quality deep house music. Feel free to tell your friends about the page too. : )

Deep House Family Mix Page

A few quick rules of conduct to keep the page focused and relevant:

1) Note that the page is called the DEEP HOUSE Family Mix Page. Feel free to share your favorite deep house mixes, classic and new. Share your own mixes or favorites from others. Please do not post electro, progressive, commercial, dubstep, etc. Nothing against other styles of music, but this will help this page to remain on-topic and relevant to those who are using it.

3) Please do NOT post single tracks or YouTube videos, etc. There are already plenty of other venues for this on facebook.

3) Please do not post events. Again, there are other venues for promoting your events.

New mix now online - "Family Vibes" September 2011

A few days ago, I finally had some time to work on a new mix, and I'm thrilled to share this one with all of you. It's a bit more techy and groovy than some of the past episodes of Family Vibes, with several classics in the mix for good measure. ; ) Tracklisting and comments below. Enjoy.

By the way, you can also check out this mix and pleny others on my Soundcloud page. I'll be uploading it on my podomatic page later today too...

Paco - "Family Vibes" September 2011

1) Don Carlos - I Can Love Nobody
Deep classic vibes from Don Carlos (2002)
2) Chez Damier - Never Knew Love (Change Up Mix)
Chicago classic from 1992 on vinyl - Thanks to Leonard Trujillo for reminding me of this one!
3) Delano Smith - Change is Coming
New Detroit vibes from Delano Smith
4) Christo - The Trust is Gone (Christo's Re-Rub)
More Detroit flavor, but this one is actually out of South Africa, on Atjazz's label
5) Artist and title coming soon
I hate it when I can't find a track I just played. Help me ID this one!
6) Ryo Murakami - Just For This (The Revenge Remix)
I can't get enough of this slow burner from a couple years ago. This track usually rides at about 115 bpm, but it's pitched up a bit here.
7) Random Factor - Convergence (Ame remix)
Another vinyl tech classic I just dug out of the crates, produced in 2004. This could have easily been produced this year.
8) Domu - Raw Baby
The basslines and atmospheric effects on this are unreal! Domu is one of a kind, no doubt.
9) The Timewriter - Dimensiones Imposibles (Pezzner Remix)
Many of Pezzner's tracks have that dirty tech funk feel that fits perfectly into a deep house set. Tracks like this are great for unexpected transitions, or what I like to call drama ; )
10) The Invisible People - Love Beats (Tropical Mix)
A hidden vinyl gem from back in 1992. House music has come so far in many ways, but tracks like this were waaaay ahead of their time.
11) Pimp Mobile - Pimp Mobile (Gianluca Pighi Appetizer Mix)
This one really brings a bit of a heavier, clubby vibe that's perfectly balanced by the unexpected piano riff. Future classic!
12) Kay Suzuki - Music (Atjazz Remix)
I'm a shameless fan of Atjazz. I like almost everything he does, so I have to try to stick to just my favorites. Deep, dirty and tribal, this one exceeds all expectations.
13) White - White
This unlabeled piece of vinyl is really simple and tracky, but has all right raw elements for building the energy in an understated way. From the B-Side of an afro-beat track I sometimes play at HUMP's afro-disco nights.
14) Global Niche Movement & David Sabat - Strong Man (Master Kev & Tony Loreto - MKTL Remix)
One of my favorite mixes by our recent guest Master Kev and his production partner Tony Loreto. Dark and soulful, what a great combination!
15) DJ Meme Orchestra feat. Tracey K - Love Is You (Quentin Harris Lovely Dub)
Continuing with the deep, dark and soulful vibes to keep elevating the energy. It's good to see that Quentin Harris isn't letting up!
16) Supernova - Marana
A raw dancefloor track to close out this unique episode of Family Vibes. Thanks for listening. I hope you enjoyed it!

House Addict Fridays tonight at Townhouse!

Hey folks!

I trust that everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. There were plenty of great House Music, techno, and dance events all around town, including several more boat parties on Lake Travis. In spite of all that was going on, tons of folks came out for Sunset Sessions and we had a another great show full of great music, friendly people and heavy dancing. ; ) As always, thanks for the support! You make these events what they are...

Tonight, House Addict Fridays continues with resident Mark Denim! I'll be joining Mark again for this one, and we're really looking forward to continuing the great momentum that's been building over these past few weeks. Townhouse (on 5th, just west of Lavaca) is a really cozy venue, and makes a great stop for drinks early in the night, or a great place to hang and dance all night with friends. Come by and House it up with us.

Sunset Sessions is THIS Sunday!

Hola Familia!

More great music added to my YouTube channel!

Tons of great funky, deep and soulful music these days, and I've added some of my favorites to my YouTube channel. Jump on to check out the music and videos, and subscribe to my channel for future updates...

A few recent highlights...

The new video by Art Department featuring Osunlade & Soul Clap - "We Call Love": It's great to see that real music videos are making their way back into our culture. What a collection of talent on this one too! Personally, I prefer the DJ Harvey mix of this track, but this video takes the cake, even if it is a little bit on the camp/hipster vibe.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse - "Heimat" (Robags Turmkolle Rekksmow): A couple artists I was turned onto recently here. This one is definitely more on the deep/tech tip, but its warmth really sucks you in. And the animations are really spectacular. This video really makes you think of the human condition and how we're treating the world we live in.

Move D - "Your Personal Healer" (Hydraulic Guitar By Juju): Another great video here with some seriously deep and hypnotic vibes. This is another one that reminds me of when MTV was playing electronic music videos on "AMP" late nights. I think that was "way back" in the late 90s?

More good music and videos like this on my YouTube channel...

Three big shows tonight, plus more this weekend! *bas_mrkt is this Sunday!*

House Addict Fridays has been steadily building steam at its lovely new location, Townhouse on 5th just west of Lavaca.  This is a lovely space (formerly Social) and could be a great Friday night home for the househeads, with enough support from our community (yes, that's YOU; ).  Drop by, have a drink and check out some great music to bump to, by resident Mark Denim and special guest JFrancis.  For a taste of what JFrancis does, check out his blog "Disco by Design".

Most def a big part of The Family, Todd Wilson aka Millhouse has been an evangelist for soulful and classic sounds for quite a while now, and this Saturday will be a testament to his mission.  We're lucky to have Millhouse, along with fellow "First Love" resident Amanda Robinson, plus H-Town hero Chris Costello, in from Houston for just one night at the coziest, most vinyl-friendly spot in town, Loft 718.

First Love on Do512 - "Like" It for extra credit ; )

Live during his Japan tour @ Better Days

Master Kev @ La Santanera for Mi Casa 2010 Playa Del Carmen 10/9/10

Master Kev’s victory in a mix-off contest in the 1990’s proved that the years of obsessing over the mixes of Timmy Regisford, Tony Humphries and others on radio and in clubs, studying underground dance and beat syncopation and accumulating a killer collection of records finally paid off . And as the number of shows soared, so did Kev’s talent. Soon after, hero Tony Humphries called Kev to ask him to join forces with him on his Yellorange Label. His answer? A triumphant ‘Hell Yeah’..
After spinning in his first WMC in the year 2000 and embarking on several trips to Europe , Asia and beyond, with Tony Humphries and even solo, his DJ career was officially on the rise. Playing with some of the most prominent clubs in major cities all over the world and playing alongside some of the prominent names in the industry including Louie Vega, Timmy Regisford, David Morales, Danny Krivit, Kerri Chandler and so many more. Also, in 2000 Kev along with founder Marlon D and others helped form the Underground Collective - a collection of DJ’s, performers, musicians..etc created to draw exposure in the dance music industry to major labels and beyond.

While working with Tony Humphries at Yellorange from 1999 - 2004, Kev had many ‘Net Shows’ on the site along with Tony Humphries and the other Yellorange DJ’s that were updated once a month. Then in 2004, Kev started a weekly radio show on CyberJamz Radio (cyberjamz.com). The show has grown more and more each year, with many producers giving Kev the upfront heat and unreleased jams. Also, many labels send Kev promo’s in hopes that those tracks/songs will be played on his very highly listened to radio show. With the amount of weekly hits in the archives it was no wonder they would think of Kev to help promote the new music. These days u can find the Master Kev 'Sessions' shows or his podcasts on Podomatic (www.masterkev.podomatic.com ) which are updated frequently.

In 2006 Kev partnered up with long time friend and former Yellorange/Underground Collective DJ partner David ‘Vibes’ Tobon and keyboard wizard John Crockett to form MKDV. They produced their first track together titled ‘Twisted’ which gained a lot of early support from the biggest names in the dance music industry and was a very popular release on the Code Red & Defected labels. They also worked on original tracks for Tony Records and remixes for Louie Vega’s imprint Vega Records remixing Sara Devine’s ‘Special’ as well as remixes for Mel Cheren’s and Kevin Hedge’s (Blaze) West End Records. In 2007 Kev partnered up with good friend Scott Wozniak to produce more tracks for Code Red & Defected titled ‘String Thing’ and ‘Uncooked’ .. ‘String Thing’ became the number 1 download on Defected’s website for weeks .. They also did some remixes on Stevie Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’ and Joe Cocker’s ‘You Are So Beautiful’ (high in demand since the 2007 WMC) which were never released to this date. Later that year Kev also partnered up with Abicah Soul and worked on original tracks and remixes as well. One of those tracks ‘Kora’ was released on Iwanni Records from Toronto.

With an abundance of traveling and playing in major clubs as well as major clubs back home in NYC such as Cielo, Santos, Sullivan Room..etc..work and the frequently updated podcast shows on Podomatic, Kev is once again back in the studio this time with very talented Tony Loreto from Italy. They have been working together a lot throughout 2009. They have done remixes for Tortured Soul ,Arnold Jarvis, Kenny Bobien, Peven Everett, Underground Collective,Michelle Weeks, Boddhi Satva's Offering Label, DJ Spen's 'Code Red' label and many others as well.

Master Kev & Tony Loreto have done a few boots as well including the remix of 'Wicked Game' Chris Isaac (fully supported by Danny Krivit and Francois K) , Leela James, Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun' .. Nina Simone's 'I Put A Spell On You' and probably their biggest yet for Radiohead 'Creep' which has made very big noise worldwide from some of the greats such as Louie Vega, Dennis Ferrer , Marques Wyatt and more. Stay tuned for much more to come!
And these days Kev and longtime friend Marlon D are back in the swing of doing Underground Collective parties in Colombia and worldwide.. Stay tuned :):)

Live Sunset Sessions mix featured on The House Hookup!

Sorry for the lag time between posts. I have a good excuse though - We just spent a week in Vieques, Puerto Rico ; ) As some of you know, Jenny and I were married in Puerto Rico in 2010, and we said we would return so we could visit the tiny island of Vieques. Well, we didn't waste any time - And it was amazing and well worth it, no doubt!

While we were away, my live 2011 SXSW mix from Sunset Sessions was featured on local house DJ Kadabra's The House Hookup podcast. Kadabra was a college radio jock a few years back, and it shows in his hosting abilities. And his show is quickly climbing the ranks on Podomatic, featuring local and regional talent alongside national and international stars, along with regular mixes from Kadabra. Check the podcast out here. Listen with the player below, or click the link below the player to listen to my guest mix and other mixes on The House Hookup's podcast page.

Paco - "Live from Sunset Sessions SXSW 2011" featured on The House Hookup

So now, back to the grind... It's all good stuff though! Some great events coming up! Here are a few of them, real quick (more details later)...

*bas_mrkt 005 on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Lanai
*Sunset Sessions (w/ special guest Master Kev!) Sunday, Sept. 4th @ Lanai
*House Addict Fridays @ Townhouse Friday, Sept. 9th

More to come soon! Adios for now...

Two new mixes now online - Classics and Disco / Deep and Soulful House

Thanks so much to everyone for the ongoing support this past weekend. The first edition of House Addict Fridays @ Nuvola was a success for sure, and we owe that to all of you! More good things to come there in the future, no doubt. And of course, bas_mrkt went off AS USUAL. It just keeps getting better from here....

First up, two brand new mixes to share with The Family. ; ) To start, my good friend and a long-time inspiration to many of us, Leonard Trujillo aka DJ Rise recently asked me to submit a guest mix for his long-running radio show - House Nation on 90.1 KSYM in San Antonio - and I was honored to say, "Yes"! In the spirit of House Nation, I played nothing but classics (and one remix of a classic) - House, Soul and Disco, and a little different than what I normally do. Listen with an open mind and hopefully you'll appreciate it : )

And for a journey through house music's history and future, be sure to check the other shows from Leo on the House Nation podcast. Always proper music from my man!

Paco - Guest Mix on House Nation

1) T-Coy – CariƱo (Motor City Drum Ensemble mix)
2) Dream Team - Love is What We Need (Benji's BC Mix)
3) Andronicus - Make You Whole

5) The Brand New Heavies - Stay This Way (Lunar Dub)
6) The Brand New Heavies - Stay This Way (Club mix)
7) T.S. Monk - Can't Keep My Hands to Myself
8) Christian Falk feat. Demetrius - Make It Right (LP mix)
9) LNR - Reachin (Dub w/ vocal)
10) Swing 52 - The Madness of it All (The Rhythm Hyped Mix)
11) Sixteen Souls - Late Night Jam
12) C&M Productions - True House (House Is Love Mix)

Next up! The live mix from last Sunday's bas_mrkt show. Plenty of people were out early for my set this time around, and it was great building the energy and atmosphere as the sun went down. This mix is perfect for a hot, sunny day with plenty of soul, afro vibes and funky, jazzy tech vibes. These are songs, not just tracks or filler like so much of what fills dancefloors these days.

Here is the mixcloud link for streaming - Email me at pacofromthefamily@gmail.com if you'd like the private link for high quality download. Tell your friends too... : )

House Addict Fridays kick-off / bas_mrkt 004 Sunday!

Hola peeps!

I hope everyone's been making the most of the summer and bearing through the heat! Jenny and I have been getting out weekly for swimming all around a lot of the best springs and swimming holes in Central Texas - Blue Hole, Krause Springs, Hamilton Pool, etc. You've gotta get to some of these if you haven't been!

There's been lots of great daytime parties and nighttime shows too. Here are a couple of great ones this weekend for fans of house, techno, tech-house, and just plain great dance music. ; )

First up, the kick off party for House Addict Fridays @ Nuvola Bar w/ me (Paco) and DJ Mark Denim! We're very excited about this one - Some of you know Nuvola Bar from its previous life as Canvas. Nuvola (on 5th between Congress and Brazos next to Kingdom) has a great lay out, and now, with a new owner and a new promotions team that's looking to really support House Music on Friday nights, there's a lot of potential for great things in the future! This Friday, we're bringing in extra speakers and bass horns just to ensure that the sound is right for the dancefloor and for all the music lovers. Come early to support and to take advantage of the $2 wells before 11. Also, $3 domestics all night long.

We're running a little lottery to encourage people to spread the word about this new night. For a chance to win a $40 drink tab for Friday night, RSVP on the facebook event page and hit "I like it" on the Do512 page, then hit me back to let me know you've done it. Feel free to tell your friends too! Friday, we will literally draw a name from a hat and we'll hit you up to let you know if you're the winner! All in the name of getting the word out and supporting your scene. It takes a community! ; )

And on Sunday, bas_mrkt is on the Lanai rooftop once again! This time, we'll be starting a little later due to the summer heat, but be sure to come at 7 pm when the doors open or shortly after to soak up the deep and soulful, positive sunset vibes from me. As usual, there's a full roster of funky, talented DJs on the lineup. It's been great watching this night really blow up each month!

Here's the lineup for this one : )

Paco- The Family / Sunset Sessions / HUMP!
DJ Jonene - electricaveanueatx / Stompy - Atx via SF
Chris Rome
Keine Moniker-surfacerecordings-SF
christian barbuto-electricavenueatx
Mexican from Mars-hypersonic

And to get you ready for another edition of bas_mrkt, here's a link to the last hour of my 3-hour live mix from the last bas_mrkt. It was hot out there and you can feel it in these musical selections - Deep, tech, soulful and afro house with tracks from Move D, Moodymanc, Christo, Osunlade, Sasse, Musaria, Office Gossip, and more...

Stream and check the tracklisting here. If you'd like a free 320 kbps download of the mix, just hit me back and I'll send you the private link. : )

Finally, be sure to check the links below for all the sites I'm on. I've been a lot more active on this blog, so subscribe for regular updates on music and events, and other related info on our culture! Or, come find me on twitter. And of course, plenty of free music for streaming or downloading on my podomatic page, my soundcloud page and the bas_mrkt mixcloud page.

Hope to see you this weekend on the dancefloor!

Tonight in Austin - Plenty of funk, soul, disco and boogie business!

What's goin' on, people! In spite of the relentless summer heat here in Austin, TX, there are plenty of great funky dance events goin' on tonight! Here's a quick rundown of a few that we'll be checking out tonight. Thanks to all the DJs, promoters, dancers, and supporters that make it happen!

First up, two great funky shows tonight in East Austin. At the Gypsy Lounge, Soul of the Boot and Strangetribe (two crews who always do it right with their Night Fever event series and other collaborationss) host local latin funk heroes Los Bandidos Cosmicos (DJ Manny w/ Claude 9) along with Washington DC-based producer, DJ, percussionist, party rocker and man of many other hats Rex Riddem. Check the event details here.

Also on Austin's east side, Adam Warped and Co. are hosting "Love Drug, A Vinyl Disco Party" once again. I haven't had a chance to make it out for this one yet, but the resident DJs Adam Warped, Davey Schacherl (formerly Richard Gear) and Supafly know their funk, soul and disco classics as well as anyone in town, so there's no doubt the music will be right and the dancefloor will be bumpin. Plus, my HUMP! Family brother DJ Resinthol is the special guest for tonight, so the disco love vibe is further guaranteed ; ) Find more details and become a fan of Love Drug here.

Finally, much props is due to Jonny Whutnot for breaking into Austin so fully and completely after moving here just a few years ago from Minneapolis. Jonathan has joined forces with Daetron Vargas and the other great folks from Loft 718 for their monthly funk, disco, hip hop, breaks and boogie night Can't Stop the Funk. This time, there's a full roster of funky vinyl addicts, including one of my favorites DJ Millhouse, plus Danbone, MC Macheti Mike and of course, DJ Whutnot.

I know there's plenty more great stuff goin' down, but that's all we're gonna make it to tonight. Hope everyone has a fun and safe night!

ps For those of you looking to get in the mood for all the funky disco parties tonight, here is a classic funk and deep disco mix I did a couple of years ago, heavily influenced by Larry Levan and the Paradise Garage. All vinyl with tracks from artists such as Lace, Imagination, Martin Circus, Idris Muhammad, Slave, Clyde Alexander, etc. Stream or download at the link below...

2) Unlimited Touch – Searchin'

New Youtube Channel - "Family Vibes" is now up and running!

And we caught an excellent show at the new club Kingdom here in Austin. DJs Blend-E & J.A.M.O.N. playing a full night of jackin' house on Sunday. Very glad we didn't miss that one! And I finally sank my teeth into Twitter - Never really understood it before, but after a bit of research, I think I'm finally starting to get it!
